Top Striker of the Indian Hockey team Navneet Kaur was seen in news recently, as she scored two crucial goals against the host New Zealand and led the country to a 3-0 win in the last game of the five-match tour.
In the tour, India began with a 4-0 win over New Zealand Development squad and two subsequent loses. In the fourth match against Great Britain, the Indian skipper Rani Rampal, who was recently chosen as the ‘World Games Athlete of the year’, scored a goal to lead India to the 1-0 win.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently announced that it has discovered a new natural gas field with 80 trillion standard cubic feet of shallow gas resources. The new gas field was named ‘Jebel Ali gas field’.
The field is located between the territories of Dubai and Abu Dhabi and reported to span around 5,000 square kilometres. This discovery would help the country become more energy independent, and self-sufficient. As of now, the UAE imports natural gas from its neighbouring country Qatar for electricity. The National Oil companies of Dubai and Abu Dhabi are set to further explore the field.

Rakhi Halder, the Indian weight-lifter from West Bengal was seen in news recently as she bagged gold medal in 64kg category at the 35th edition of the Senior Women’s National Weightlifting Championships, being held at Kolkata.
Rakhi Halder, who is an Indian Railways employee, had clinched gold in the Commonwealth Championship in June 2019 and the bronze medal at the Qatar International Cup. Earlier, former World champion Mirabai Chanu from Manipur set a new national record in the 49-kg category and won gold medal.

Veteran Hollywood actor Kirk Douglas has recently passed away at the age of 103. The legendary actor was born in Amsterdam and his original name was Issur Danielovitch Demsky.
He made his Hollywood debut in 1946 with the film “The Strange Love of Martha Ivers” and Kirk Douglas became a leading box-office icon of Hollywood during 1950-60. One of his most popular movies was ‘Spartacus’, which made a universal box-office record. He was the recipient of the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest award given to a US civilian.

Lucknow Declaration was adopted by the first ever India-Africa Defence Ministers conclave as a part of the 11TH DefExpo. In this Defexpo, 1024 exhibitors participated, 172 of them being foreign companies. 40 Defence Ministers were part of total 70 foreign delegations that visited Lucknow. The event was also called “Defence Kumbh” by UP’s Chief Minister.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has recently approved the formation of Joint Venture (JV) between Mahindra & Mahindra and Ford Motor and the transfer of automotive business of Ford India to the JV.
The new venture to be formed would acquire the automotive business of Ford India Pvt Ltd (FIPL), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ford Motor company. The automotive business includes manufacturing plants of Ford India in Chennai and Sanand (Gujarat).

Top Global aerospace company Boeing recently announced that it has asked license from the United States authorities for sanction, to export its F-15EX fighter aircraft to the Indian Air Force. This was announced by the aerospace firm in an aviation magazine.
After this fighter aircraft is inducted, it would be the eighth fighter aircraft deployed in the Indian Air Force. Last year, Indian Air Force issued tender for acquiring 114 medium jets.

The United States has recently approved the sale of an Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) to India. The Weapon system is to be sold for an estimated cost of $1.9 billion. India would deploy the IADWS to modernise its armed forces and enhance its air defence architecture.
The trade deal is proposed to be signed during the visit of the US President Donald Trump to India, in the month of February, 2020.

Corbett Tiger Reserve is located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The Jim Corbett National park is known for its rich flora and fauna, especially Bengal tigers.
Recently, the state cabinet of Uttarakhand approved an area of 377 sq km for the eco-sensitive zone (ESZ), which is proposed for the Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR). As per the approval, the maximum area of the ESZ is 7.96 km. The proposal is set to be forwarded to the Central Government.
